Young Scot has got to dance

A 10-YEAR-OLD Scots dancing sensation is one step closer to her dream of winning a £250,000 fortune on a television talent show.

Tamara Robertson, from Musselburgh, East Lothian, beat off competition from around 2,300 applicants to compete on Sky 1’s Got to Dance.

She is set to perform live in her semi-final on Sunday evening and has high hopes of claiming one of the four places in the final February 27.

Tamara  impressed the judges – Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, West End actor Adam Garcia and Diversity star Ashley Banjo –  at her audition in Glasgow last month and was whittled down to the last 28.

The youngster is already leading the pack after receiving three gold stars, the top mark – which is better than many of her fellow contestants.

Tamara on her success

Tamara, who started dancing when she was three-years-old, said: “It’s really exciting.

“I think I have a good chance of winning because I rehearse every day and train my hardest.

“If I won the competition, it would be the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my whole entire life.”

She says if she won she would take her friends, family and teachers to Disneyland Paris and would like to see a show on Broadway.

The primary six pupil said: “I would save the rest of my money for my dancing career so my mum doesn’t have to work as hard to pay for taking me to competitions.”

Tamara is a member of the Quilietti School of Dance in Edinburgh and performs freestyle, jazz and ballet.

Life of a dancer

She trains five days a week and spends around 30 hours on the dance floor, and has already taken the UK, European and world disco championships for her age group.

She was given the title “mini Lady Gaga” at her Glasgow audition, when she danced to the Queen hit Who Wants to Live Forever in a black sparkly leotard, a bleached blonde wig and long fake eyelashes.

The trio of judges dubbed her a “serious contender” and said they were surprised at how supple she was.

Tamara added: “I have been rehearsing every day and I’m practicing hard. I’m really excited about being on TV.

“I’m really going to try my hardest and hopefully impress everyone at home so they pick up a phone and vote for me.”

Fiona Quilietti, Tamara’s dance teacher, said: “In the past month we’ve been practicing everyday in the studio.

“We’ve been out campaigning with flyers, posters and banners that you might see in the local area.

“We’ve been up and down to London a few times and it’s just been manic for us.

“We’re really excited but we’re nervous as well, because of the standard of competition this year.

“Obviously, a lot more people know about it this year, so the standard of competition and the number of entries is far higher, but I know Tamara will do her best.”
