Elderly man in hospital after Anstruther crash

AN elderly man was taken to hospital after two cars collided outside a secondary school in Fife.

Fire fighters were called to the scene on St Andrews Road, outside Wade Academy in Anstruther at around 11.15am today, after reports that the man was trapped inside his vehicle.

He was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with a suspected head injury but his condition was not believed to be serious.

The man, who was unable to open his door, was removed from the car in less than 15 minutes, and no one else was hurt in the crash.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said: “We were called to a road traffic collision in Anstruther just before 11.15am.

“One elderly casualty was freed from his vehicle as he was unable to open the door.

“He was removed from the vehicle by 11.30am.”

An ambulance spokesman said: “One person was taken to Ninewells Hospital with a suspected head injury but he was not seriously hurt.

“We did not take anyone else to hospital.”
