SCOTLAND’S newly appointed Makar will complete her first official engagement today (Fri) – at the home of Scotland’s most famous poet.
Liz Lochhead, 63, will help open the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway which will be home to 5000 related manuscripts, artefacts and other memorabilia related to the Bard.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond – who last weekend told Desert Island Discs that the complete works of Burns would be his choice of treading if ever marooned – will also attend the ceremony.
The new museum compliments the Burns Monument, Alloway Auld Kirk, Burns Cottage, Auld Brig O’ Doon and an education pavilion all ready there.
Ms Lochhead takes over as Makar from Edwin Morgan, who died last year aged 90.
