A body found in Cumbria may be that of missing Edinburgh woman, Elizabeth Brown.
The 55 year old grandmother better known to friends as Betty has been missing for eight months. She was last seen on CCTV on May 28 getting off a number three bus on Nicholson Street in the city centre.
The Gorgie Road resident was reported missing after she failed to show up for work at a care home in Gilmerton following a week’s holiday.
Despite an extensive leafleting campaign by police there has been no sign of Elizabeth.
The body discovered in the area of Longtown near Carlisle on Tuesday, was found in woodland next to a disused quarry by a man walking his dog.
A police spokesman said: “Lothian and Borders Police can confirm they are currently liaising with Cumbria Constabulary following the discovery of human remains near Longtown, Carlisle on Thursday 20th January.
“Enquiries are ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment further until a formal identification of the remains has been made.”
An officer from Lothian and Borders police will travel down to Cumbria for the post mortem examination next week.
