SCOTLAND stocked up for a harsh January on the roads as thousands of tonnes of salt was brought into the country.
With more snow and ice forecast for the rest of the month, the Scottish Government was taking no chances after last month’s premature cold-snap saw drivers stranded for hours on some of the country’s busiest roads.
26,000 tonnes of salt was delivered at Leith Docks in Edinburgh yesterday (Fri) from Peru, which was ordered in early December and is to be distributed to roads authorities across the country.
The delivery will be followed by a further 42,000 tonne drop-off in the coming days.
