A FEMALE shop assistant was held-up at knife point by thieves who stole more than a thousand pounds then made off in the woman’s car yesterday morning (Wed).
The employee was opening the Co-op store on Corslet Place in Currie, west Edinburgh at 5.40am when two men wearing balaclavas and black gloves approached her from behind.
The pair threatened the woman with a knife, forcing her to open the store’s safe.
They took a four-figure sum of money before they fled the scene of the crime in the victim’s blue Nissan Almera.
The car has since been retrieved by Lothian and Borders Police outside of Edinburgh.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers have recovered the car on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It is intact and has not been burnt out or seriously damaged.”
Police described the suspects and have appealed for any information that may help them locate them.
One was described as 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build wearing grey Adidas trainers, dark jeans, a green and black checked shirt and a pair of black leather gloves.
The other man is shorter, 5ft 4ins, and thin. He was wearing black trainers, grey jogging bottoms with a stripe down each leg. He also wore a black zip-up top and black gloves.
The police spokesman said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured, however she is understandably distressed as a result of her ordeal, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the two men responsible.
“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects, or who has any other information that can assist our inquiries, should get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.”
