FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog after it got itself stranded on a small island while out for a walk with its owner in Edinburgh yesterday (Wed).
A water rescue team from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service waded out to the golden retriever which was stuck on an island in the Water of Leith close to Stockbridge shortly after lunchtime.
A fire crew and the Scottish SPCA were called after the dog was unable to paddle back to safety and it’s owner on the shore.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “A golden retriever was rescued by our water rescue team from a small island on the Water of Leith at 1.30pm.
“The dog was given back to its owner and was unharmed.”
