SCOTLAND’S capital launched into the Christmas spirit with a give away of prizes worth thousands of pounds.
For the first three days of next week shoppers will have the chance to win a diamond, a £1,000 shopping spree, a day’s cooking with a Michelin chef and VIP passes to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.
The Edinburgh Sparkles Treasure Hunt will take place from 13th – 16th December with luxury prizes hidden throughout the city centre each day.
In a modern twist on the game, clues will not be in paper form but announced via twitter from @edinburgh_.
Laing the Jeweller has gifted a stunning loose 0.5 carat diamond, which can be set into anything from a necklace to an engagement ring, whilst House of Fraser and Jenners have organised a £1000 spree through their department stores.
The award-winning 21212 restaurant will give one lucky person a day’s tuition with their Michelin-star chef, Paul Kitching and finally, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay has gifted VIP tickets to Scotland’s biggest and best street party, which has Scots rockers, Biffy Clyro headlining.
Kenneth Wardrop, Chief Executive of Destination Edinburgh Marketing Alliance (DEMA) said: “These prizes are amazing – they’ll definitely bring the sparkle into Christmas for those lucky enough to find them.
“There’s no-where else that will celebrate quite like Edinburgh. It’s shaping up to be a really special year and we’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to our beautiful city.”
Meanwhile, today, Edinburgh’s very own snow-bot will be unveiled at St Andrew’s Square.
The giant 3.9 metre high robot created by two recent graduates of Edinburgh College of Art, will shoot snow 10 metres into the air at sporadic intervals to the delight of shoppers and tourists as part of the ‘Alternative Christmas Decorations’, a competition run by Edinburgh Sparkles.
