Police probe alleged Dalry brick attack

POLICE in Edinburgh are investigating after reports a man was beaten in his home by a gang of men allegedly wielding bricks earlier today.

Scores of officers, some with dogs, responded to reports of an attack in Orwell Terrace in the Dalry area of the city at lunchtime.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that an operation was “ongoing” but said they were unable to provide details.

However one local who watched the drama unfold said: “About seven or eight guys burst into a flat and are suppose to have beaten a guy with bricks.

“There are lots of police some of them with dogs but they are not saying what happened.

“All one of the older coppers would tell me was that they weren’t wishing the bloke a Merry Christmas.

“Some folk are saying it is about drugs but none of us know for sure.  Nobody knows.”

It was later confirmed that the victim, a 20 year old man, was treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for a range of injuries.

A mobile CCTV unit was also posted in the area as police inquiries continued.

Police said no further details were available.
