AN elderly woman was assaulted and injured during a break-in at her home in the Borders.
The 81-year-old was in bed when she reportedly heard noises coming from the living room, and as she struggled to get up a man entered her bedroom.
He demanded money, but the woman refused and she sustained minor injuries as he pushed her to the floor and fled the property.
The incident happened at around 5.45am on Friday, in the Millpath area of Hawick.
Police have launched an investigation and have described the man as being aged between 18 and 20, with dark hair and a “skinny” build.
He is also described as having a drawn, gaunt face, and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.
A police spokesman said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim, who suffered a minor injury to her left shoulder as a result of her being pushed to the floor.
“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Millpath at the time of the incident, who saw the suspect acting suspiciously there, to get in touch as a matter of urgency.
“Similarly, anyone who recognises his description, or who has any other information that can help our inquiries, should also get in touch.”
