UPDATED: A TRAGIC two year old Fife girl who died in a fall from a second floor flat in Kirkcaldy has been named.
Police investigating the accident confirmed Kayleigh Wotherspoon was the tot who fell from the six in a block building in the town’s Fair Isle Road shortly before 3pm yesterday (fri).
Mercy crews rushed to the scene and took her straight to Queen’s Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.
She was then transferred to the specialist Sick Kids hospital in Edinburgh but later died from her injuries.
A Fife police spokesman said: “We are currently investigating the circumstamces surrounding the fatal injuries sustained by a two year old child after an apparent fal from her home in Kirkcadly.
“About 2.45pm emergency services were called to the address in Fair Isle Road, Kirkcaldy, where it was reported that a child had fallen from a second storey level.
“The child was initially taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline before being taken to the Sick Kids in Edinburgh where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.”
In a statement the toddler’s grief hit family said: “Kayleigh was full of life and a cheeky wee monkey. A loving baby sister to Katelyn. The whole family are completely devastated and Kayleigh will be sorely missed.”
Houses on the street have balcony areas, but police said they were still trying to find out what happened.
