Campers caught in caravan blaze horror

By Michael MacLeod

SIX campers were rushed to hospital after their holiday home went on fire.

Fire fighters evacuated the Beechtree Caravan Park in Keith this morning when flames began to spread.

The blaze broke out at 5.30am in a wooden chalet at the Moray site and is being treated as “unexplained” by police.

The casualties were rushed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Two were reported to be in a critical condition but police refused to give further details until the next of kin had been told.

Other campers were kept out of the site until 8am while fire crews dampened down the destroyed chalet.

Grampian Fire and Rescue and Grampian Police have launched a joint investigation to probe the cause of the fire.
