A CALLOUS owner is being hunted after abandoning a young puppy in a bin cupboard.

The eight-week-old pup was rescued after a resident in the high rise flats heard his cries and went to have a look.

The black and white collie cross – named Biffa by staff at the Scottish SPCA – had been put in a box and left in the cupboard at an Edinburgh high rise.

He was found on Monday and has since been recovering at the charity’s rehoming centre in Dumbarton where he has become a hit with staff.

“Defenceless”

Luckily Biffa wasn’t injured, but staff at the Scottish SPCA are determined to find out who dumped the defenceless pup at Dunsyre House on Calder Drive in the Wester Hailes area of the city.

Inspector Jenni Surgeon, who is investigating the incident, said: “The finder said that he had overheard the puppy’s cries and found him in a box in the bin cupboard.

“It’s very hard to understand why anyone would choose to dump a defenceless little puppy in this way.

“At eight weeks he is old enough to be away from his mum, but he can’t fend for himself entirely and needs the care and attention of an owner.

“Thankfully Biffa doesn’t have any injuries and he’s doing really well in our care.

“He’s an affectionate and playful little pup and I’m sure we will find him a loving family home very soon.

“We are urging anyone who recognises the puppy and knows who might have owned him to get in touch with us.”

It comes less than a week after a two week old puppy was found abandoned in a box in Lanarkshire.

Tulip was found by a passer by in Viewpark and was taken to the charity’s Hamilton centre.

The Scottish SPCA want to remind people that abandoning an animal is a serious offence and can lead to the offender being banned from keeping animals for life.

The charity are asking anyone who may have any information to get in touch on 03000 999 999.
