A WOMAN was dragged behind a speeding car driven by thieves after stubbornly refusing to let go of her prized Louis Vuitton bag.
The fashion conscious 22-year-old was targeted by muggers as she walked along St Mary Street in Edinburgh on Tuesday morning.
Police said she was attacked near the Travelodge hotel in the street when a group of three men in a dark hatchback car called her over.
As she approached the vehicle a man in the back of the car grabbed the designer handbag.
The driver then gunned the vehicle down the city centre street, just off the Royal Mile.
But the victim continued to hang on to her bag she was dragged down the street before eventually being freed.
Attackers
The car then tore off towards the South Bridge junction on the Royal Mile.
And although slightly injured in the tug of war, she emerged triumphant when her attackers fled the scene empty handed.
The woman was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary hospital for a check up but incredibly she suffered only minor injuries.
It was unclear how far the struggle lasted for, and today (Wed) police appealed for witnesses to the attack.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Thankfully the culprits were unsuccessful in their attempt to rob the victim.
“However she did receive minor injuries that required hospital treatment, and we are keen for any information that can help us identify those responsible.
“Anyone who was in the area of St Mary’s Street and the Royal Mile at around the time of the incident, who has any information that can help our inquiries, should contact us immediately.
Suspect
“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or the vehicle, should also get in touch.”
The suspect who grabbed the bag is described as white, 25 to 35 years old, with short dark hair and also facial hair, possibly a moustache or beard.
On average Louis Vuitton handbags retail for between £1000 and £2000 a time, but according to their website, can cost as much as £3000.
The woman declined to be interviewed.
