A WOMAN is being treated for spinal injuries after being involved in a head on collision in West Lothian early today (Mon).
Two cars collided on the Blackburn to Addiewell road in the early hours of the morning.
The female – believed to be in her 20s – was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with suspected spinal and pelvic injuries after being cut from her vehicle.
Another casualty – a man who was in the other car – refused to be taken to hospital by the ambulance.
Emergency services got the call at 5.45am and an ambulance arrived just before 6am.
But they realised that the woman was trapped and had to call out Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service who used hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue her from the smash.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We arrived on the scene at 5.53am and treated two patients.
“One male who refused to travel and one female with possible spinal and pelvic injuries who was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
“The patients were travelling in separate cars as far as we could tell.”
