A MAN has been detained by police after a cannabis cultivation operation went up in flames.
Fire crews where called to a house in the Colinton area of Edinburgh after a fire was reported in a cupboard under the stairs at around 7am yesterday.
The fire service reported the incident to police, who have detained a 42-year-old man in connection with the discovery.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said: “We attended reports of a fire at an address on Lanark Road at 7.05am.
“The fire was started under the stairs in a cupboard used for the cultivation of cannabis and we used CO2 to extinguish the fire.
“We asked police to attend because there was an illegal substance involved.”
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “A 42-year-old man has been detained in connection with the discovery of a small cannabis cultivation at an address in Lanark Road today.
“Police were notified of the discovery by the fire service, who attended at the address in order to tackle a fire that had broken out within the property.”
