HALF of all Scots watch or read porn – and think it boosts their sex life.
A large number of those who view porn were adamant it helped relationships between the sheets.
But according to a YouGov online survey less than a quarter of Scots who have lost their virginity said they were “very happy” with their sex lives.
And only nine per cent rated themselves as excellent in bed.
Dr Petra Boynton, sex educator and lecturer in International Health Services Research at a London university, said porn in relationships can be seen as both good and bad.
She said: “I think it has benefits but can be linked to relationship problems.
“It can be good and bad – people do make decisions and they can be healthy ones or foolish ones.
“If you set out to share porn with your partner then that would be fair.
“If you’re using it because you don’t want to be intimate then that could be a problem.
“But I would say that it’s never that clean cut.
“There’s been a strong history with local councils in Scotland of being quite opposed to things like lap dancing and porn.
“There’s a history of them being largely negative but this survey shows that people’s views may have changed.”
Just 35 per cent of Scots admitted thinking about sex at least once a day – and the figure was even less for thoughts at least once an hour.
And coinciding with national Condom Week the biggest statistic from the poll showed a massive 70 per cent have had unprotected sex.
And nearly a tenth of those who responded – who were not virgins – have paid for sex.
