Fife Police investigate 23-year-old’s death

By Rory Reynolds

A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been found dead in a home in Fife.

Derek Hanlon was found at a house in Dunfermline’s Allan Crescent yesterday morning.

Police said the young man died of a heart attack but added that investigations are ongoing.

Officers spent yesterday doing door to door enquiries along the street before the body was removed by a private ambulance.

A window on the grey terraced house was boarded-up as police conducted their investigations and forensic officers in white suits scoured the scene.

One neighbour – who said he did not want to be identified – said:  “We came back at 10am and there were three police cars and an ambulance there.

Upset

“Not long after a police van came along and took a man into the police van.

“The private ambulance showed up later.”

At the family home in Dunfermline, Derek’s parents David and Rhona were too upset to speak.

But neighbours Alexander and Sheila Fairbairn said Derek’s death was “terrible”. They added that Derek had been adopted as a young child.

Mr Fairbairn said: “It is so sad to hear that.

“The Hanlon’s had given Derek everything, they are such nice people.

“They originally adopted him when he was four I think. They were always so good to him.”

Mr Fairbairn added: “It is so terrible to hear that.”

Investigation

A Fife Police spokesman said: “We were called to an address at Allan Crescent at 9.20am this morning where a 23-year-old male had gone into cardiac arrest. An ambulance attended but the male was pronounced life extinct. We’re still in the early stages of the enquiry but are carrying out investigations.”

Ambulance staff said they were called to the address just after 9am but Mr Hanlon was pronounced dead at the scene and police were now handling the situation.

An ambulance spokesman said: “We attended a call just after 9.15am. The patient was pronounced life extinct at the scene and he was not conveyed to hospital.”

They added that a person within the property at Allan Crescent had made the emergency call.
