POLICE are hunting a callous thief who stole the handbag of a disabled woman on a mobility scooter.
The theft happened in broad daylight after the man stalked the 53-year-old woman as she left a Post Office on Brougham Street in Edinburgh yesterday.
He is believed to have followed her to the leafy Meadow Park Lane before snatching the woman’s bag and fleeing
The man is described as being white, 5ft, 6in to 5ft 8in, with slim to stocky build and aged 30-40, with gaunt complexion.
He was wearing a red baseball cap, short light green zipper jacket and white trainers. The thief ran off into Roseneath Place and Warrender Park Road, in the city’s student populated Marchmont area.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “This was a callous crime, carried out by an individual who obviously has no qualms about preying on vulnerable members of the public.
“We want anyone who was in the Post Office in Brougham Street between 1pm and 1.30pm yesterday, who saw the suspect there, to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, anyone who was in the area of Meadow Park Lane, and witnessed the bag snatch, should also get in touch. We would also like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of the suspect.”
