A MUM was caught driving whilst twice the legal booze limit – with her three-month old baby in the back seat.
The 26-year-old was stopped after officers saw her driving erratically on Baileyfield Road, Edinburgh, in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
And the horrified cops found she had her baby was asleep in the back of the car when they pulled her over and breathalysed her.
The woman – who hasn’t been identified by police – is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at the end of the month.
Unmarked police cars
The arrest was part of Lothian and Borders summer drink driving campaign.
The crackdown resulted in 14 arrests in the first week, with both marked and unmarked police vehicles out on patrol.
In another incident, a 36-year-old man was pulled over after he was spotted driving whilst holding an unsecured load steady on top of his car with his hand.
When police pulled him over last Tuesday (July 7) he was found to be twice over the limit.
“Determined”
And another man, aged 44, was found to be three times over the limit when he was caught speeding on the A1 in East Lothian last Monday (July 6).
He will be appearing at Haddington Sheriff Court at the end of the month.
A police spokesman said: “We are determined to drive the message home that drink driving will not be tolerated, and we have in place a comprehensive enforcement plan which will target roads across the force area at all times of the day and night.
“We will continue our plan of enforcement over the coming week, and we would also encourage members of the public to get involved by reporting to us anyone who they suspect of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs”
Anyone with any information about someone driving whilst on drink or drugs should contact the police.
