POLICE are hunting for a pervert posing online as a fake doctor and handing out phoney medical advice.
Using the moniker “Dr Glyn”, the fake GP has fashioned himself as an internet expert on medical matters and has been contacting young women by email.
Many of the details divulged are “intimate and embarrassing”, with some even being “gynaecological in nature”, police said.
Lothian and Borders Police uncovered evidence of the emails as part of a separate investigation, and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The emails – which have been sent and received during the last three to four months – leave no clue as to the identity of the fake doc, who may be either a man or a woman.
Gary Boyd, Detective Sergeant with Livingston CID, said that anyone using the name “Dr Glyn” should contact him immediately.
He said: “We need to ensure that people’s health and wellbeing have not been affected by this individual’s questionable advice.
“People seeking medical help or advice should consult their local GP or NHS 24.
“At the moment we only have a snapshot of ‘Dr Glyn’, as well as the knowledge that only six individuals have been contacted by him.
“This investigation is at an early stage, and we’re eager to track down the six individuals contacted by ‘Dr Glyn’ – I would urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
Anyone with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
