Martin Barclay Murder: Girlfriend and three others in court

THE girlfriend of a dad who was killed on his own doorstep is among four people who have appeared in court in connection with his murder.

Her brother has been charge with carrying out the killing itself.

Martyn Barclay died after being shot in the head at near his home in Hazelwood Grove in Edinburgh on January 17 this year.

The 31-year-old died the following day in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and a murder investigation was launched.

Today (Monday) at Edinburgh Sheriff Court three members of Caroline Igoe’s family and another man appeared in private on petition over various allegations relating to Mr Barclay’s death.

His girlfriend, Caroline Igoe, 31, is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Her brother, Paul Igoe, is charged with Mr Barclay’s murder.

The 36-year-old also faces charges under the Firearms Act and is accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Miss Igoe’s mother, Margaret, also appeared – it is claimed the 61-year-old also attempted to pervert the course of justice.

Kenneth Carruthers, 36, is also charged under the Firearms Act and is accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

All four made no plea or declaration during a private hearing. Caroline Igoe and Paul Igoe were remanded in custody after bail was refused.

Sheriff William Holligan granted bail for Margaret Igoe and Kenneth Carruthers however both were remanded in custody following an appeal by the Crown.

They will have to appear at the High Court within 72 hours for a decision on the appeal.

Two others who were arrested in connection with the death were released by prosecutors and did not appear.
