CHRISTINE Hamilton has changed her name by deed poll – to Mrs British Battleaxe.
The wife of former Tory minister Neil Hamilton made the change as part of an elaborate PR stunt for an online deed poll company.
The 59-year-old – who gained a formidable reputation through a series of TV appearances including I’m a Celebrity Get me out of Here – said the name was an obvious choice.
And having published the Bumper Book of British Battleaxes in 1997, she chose the title as her new name.
She said: “Well of course it had to be Mrs. British Battleaxe – what else?”
And the new name will take some getting used to as Christine adapts to life as British Battleaxe.
She said: “I haven’t got round to changing my bank account, passport or chequebook, but who knows?
“I haven’t tried writing any cheques with my new name but who knows what I might be doing with it in the future.
“I have to admit I didn’t ask Neil before I did it.”
The Legal Deed Service, who hired Christine for the job, were surprised by her choice of name change.
Jamie Jackson, Chief Executive of the company, said: “We have had some unusual names in the past but this really takes the biscuit.”
