Raith Rovers are weighing up a move for JJ Hooper as the former Newcastle youngster continues his bid to win a deal in Scottish football.
The 21-year-old, who scored 20 goals for Havant and Waterlooville last term, enjoyed a 71-minute cameo on Tuesday evening as Rovers played out a 1-1 draw with a Celtic XI.
Hooper was recently on trial with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, albeit the Highlanders’ interest in the player cooled when they signed Spaniard Dani Lopez.
He then joined up with training at Rovers’ Fife rivals, Dunfermline, last week and found the net in a 5-2 friendly victory over Queen’s Park.
Raith boss Ray McKinnon has added Craig Wighton and Mitch Megginson to his attacking ranks, supplementing the existing options of Lewis Vaughan and Mark Stewart, but may look to strengthen further.
